1.  ABC-sponsored SAT/ACT prep, $195:

– Sunday, Aug 22, 4 – 6 pm, through 5 additional Sundays.

– Registration forms are online at www.wheelerabc.org or in Guidance and Magnet Offices.

– Practice test Sat Aug 28 included, along with all course materials, math and verbal strategies and practice SAT.

2. Princeton Review Course for Wheeler Magnet

– Go to www.princetonreview.com, zip code 30062 for complete info and to register.

– Enroll by 8/18; classes are Sun and Thu 8/21 – 10/7

– Cost is $375 and includes 18 hours of classroom instruction, 3 full-length tests and 18 hours of classroom instruction.

3. Online SAT Prep is available for free through the College Board.  The deadline has been extended to Nov, 2010.  Accounts from last year are still valid.  Students who want to open new accounts should talk to their counselors.

Congratulations to Pranay Udutha, ’10, who was recently named one of eight Bernard Ramsey Honors Scholars at UGA.  This very prestigious scholarship includes full tuition and a number of academic and cultural opportunities.

Yearbook: Wildcat Daze price of $65 still good through Sunday, Aug 8!  Parents/students can either come by Room 001 to pick up an order form and pay by check, or they can go to www.jostensyearbooks.com and place the order and pay online.

Wildcat Daze:

Wildcat Daze has been rescheduled slightly.  The event remains on Monday, August 2, 2010, but now starts at 6:00 pm.  There are no specific time frames for different classes:  drop in whenever it is convenient for you from 6:00 pm through the evening.

The list represents just 6% of all public high schools in the country.  Criteria is based on how well students at the high school are challenged with advanced placement courses and tests.  Wheeler’s ranking of 347 was a jump of 430 rankings above last year and places Wheeler as the second-highest ranked school in Cobb County.

Congratulations to our newest member of the 800 Club, Kelsey Maloney, ’11, who scored a perfect 800 on the Math portion of the SAT. Wheeler Magnet now has 62 students who have achieved a perfect score on one or more portions of the SAT.

Congratulations to Wayne Lu, who won the Clayton State University Annual Mathematics and Information Technology Contest Individual Math Champion at Clayton State University.

Congratulations to the following Magnet seniors who were named winners of $2,500 National Merit Scholarships on May 5: Jennifer Dou, who is planning a career in biology or biochemistry; Christopher Leinweber, engineering; Noah Levine, theater; Mengjie Liu, chemical engineering; and Darpan Patel, medical law.

Congratulations to Pranay Udutha and Taylor Revere for being selected to receive an Academic Scholarship from the Cobb County Public Schools Educational Foundation. The foundation awards academic scholarships to Cobbs’ graduating seniors from each of our schools.
